Downtown Walking Tour
The orientation walk. Eight stops, start to finish, for a first visit.
8 stopsAbout 30 minutes
If you have half an hour and have never been here, walk this one first. Everything else on this page assumes you know where you are.
The Route
Stop 1: Notcross Welcome Center
4 Imagination Way
Start here. Brochures, printed guides, restrooms, and someone who is glad you came.
Stop 2: S Peachtree Street
20–60 block
The main street, and the length of the commercial district. Three blocks, brick storefronts, ginkgos, and a bench roughly every eighty feet.
Stop 3: Skin Alley
Behind the S Peachtree storefronts
The back alley, now the mural district. Worth the detour even on a short walk; the walls change every March.
Stop 4: Depot Plaza & Depot Green
Thrasher Street at the rail alignment
The plaza hosts the Summer Concert Series; the green beside it is the closest thing downtown has to a living room.
Stop 5: The Brunswick
Thrasher Street at Park Drive
The 1870 hotel, back on its site since 2026. The porches are open whether or not you are dining, which is how the original operated.
Stop 6: Thrasher Park
500 Thrasher Street
Four acres, a pavilion, a playground, a splash pad and a walking loop. The centre of public life here.
Stop 7: College Street
College Street
City Hall, the theatre, the provisions store and the diner. Less polished than Peachtree and better for it.
Stop 8: Carlisle House Lot
Park Drive
Ninety-six free spaces behind an 1897 house the City spent twenty years agreeing it should buy. End here, because this is probably where you parked.
