Historic Woman's Club Assigned Actual Purpose

The City of Notcross is delighted to announce that the historic Woman's Club will reopen to the public on September 20 with a defined and ongoing use.

Purchased by the City for approximately $1 million, the 1922 clubhouse was for nine years the most beloved building in Notcross without a reason to be open. It was the subject of an adaptive reuse study, a structural assessment, a community input session, and a 2021 resolution affirming the building's importance.

Beginning in September the building will operate as a rentable event hall on weekends, a six-desk small-business incubator on weekdays, and the permanent home of the Notcross Welcome Center. The rental calendar is already accepting bookings through spring.

"There was never anything wrong with the building," the City Manager said. "The building was excellent. What the building lacked was an answer to the question of what it was for. We have now supplied one."

Rehabilitation work was completed in eleven months and included roof replacement, accessibility improvements, and restoration of the original porch. Total project cost was $840,000.

The City notes that the combined cost of acquisition and rehabilitation exceeds what the building might have cost to simply operate over the same period, and has declined to elaborate.
